Introduction to Research Paper by ECSDM

Description
During this lesson, students will be introduced to the parts of a research paper. They will understand what is expected of them and choose an event/person to research. Students will also be taught how to use the internet as well as other sources to find information and correctly represent what the have found.
Procedures
The teacher will address class explaining Do Now.
Do Now:
1) Pick up handout on Research Project.
2) Read handout underlining the words that you do not understand. After five minutes, one student will come up to board and list responses of class.
Students will take notes and/or write definitions of unfamiliar terms.
Teacher will open page having Quoting, Summarizing, Paraphrasing Teacher will then read page with group high lighting words and eliciting responses from class.
Assessment
Students will work in pairs to 1) complete handout which gives practice with quotations, summarizing, and paraphrasing, and 2) to complete a tentative work outline for their research project.

Objectives
Students will become familiar with all phases of preparing a research paper.
Students will utilize the internet to find materials about the topic they have chosen.
Students will be able to utilize primary sources in their work with correct citation.
Students will understand the meaning of academic integrity and be able to give examples.
Students will construct individual timelines to help them take responsibility for their work.
